THE RUNDOWN | A Palestinian janitor is being accused of raping a young girl in the West Bank, causing outrage in Israel over the incident. The incident has sparked political emotional responses from many so far. Our Daniel Tsemach reports on the latest details.
Israel woke up to the news of a Palestinian janitor being indicted by an Israeli military court in the West Bank for the rape of a 7-year-old Jewish girl from a settlement in the Binyamin area of the West Bank.
According to court reports, the 46-year-old man from the West Bank village of Deir Qaddis, near Ramallah, lured the girl, who was attending the school by which he was employed, with sweets.
According to the indictment, he took the young girl to a building in construction, where the act took place. The man was not alone, but cheered on by his friends. Every gruesome detail released in the indictment was reported on in the media.
The rape was not immediately reported by the parents, and due to the length of time between the act and the reports, the indictment hinges solely on the testimony of the victim, with little chance of forensic evidence. There are no other eyewitnesses, and no security camera footage, according to reports.
