There are 7 common mistakes people make when they start MIG welding:

1. They don't prep their material
2. Volts too high or too low
3. Wire feed speed too high or too low
4. Electrical stick-out that is too long or short
5. Gas Flow too low or high
6. Travel speed too fast or slow
7. Gun angle to steep

We're going to go into all of these issues and show you what to look for to troubleshoot your own welding parameters and technique.

If your welds sound like bacon, then you're doing great! Keep it up!

If your welds smell like bacon then sorry buddy, but you're on fire.

Almost impossible to make bad welds using gas and expensive machine. switch to flux core and sub 200 machine then you will have perfect examples of bad welds every time.

Very informative. Demonstrating each weld mistake and clearly explaining - love the way you start with the base line. I'm teaching my son to mig and this will help so much. Thank you.

I have no idea how I landed here, but now I'm glad I did! I'm retired Navy and was the senior instructor of the Non-Destructive Testing and Inspecting Program and 4954, 4955, and 4956 Coded Welding Programs. YOU are an EXCELLENT Instructor and craftsman! Since there may be future welders watching this video, I'd like to invite them to check into the U.S. Navy Hull Technician Program/Rating. We are the Jack-of-all-trades in the Navy. Learn to weld, get certified and get paid while you do that! The HT rating also is open to many Dive Programs, including underwater welding. I'm not a recruiter, just a man who had a fantastic career. As the Senior Instructor, I received job position offers from countless companies looking for Navy Certified Welders - the 4955 and 4956 coded welders had their pick of jobs and had great civilian careers. Thanks again and I wish you all the best! EXCELLENT!!!

Your presentation, as an educator, is spot on! Your knowledge of the subject matter comes through loud and clear! This is an excellent video, especially for the serious minded individual who seeks to become more than competent in MIG welding. I am thrilled to find such high quality on a subject that presently interests me! Thank you very much...well done!

At last a welding tutorial that actually shows you something. I've been a metal worker and welder for 65 years and this is one of the most informative tutorials I've seen.

There's something oddly satisfying about watching the "wire speed too low" portion of the video.
