THE SPIN ROOM | The Trump administration is trying to use economic prosperity to advance the cause of peace, but will the Palestinians accept that as a means to agreeing to a peace deal? Panelists Ariel Kahana, Tammi Molad Hayo and Ben-Dror Yemini debate.

The leader of Hamas called for the cancellation of the Bahrain summit, on the day of the publication of its draft program.

In a rare address to the foreign press, the political bureau chief said the forum was part of the US and Israeli plan to "destroy the Palestinian national project" and called on the king of Bahrain to cancel the summit.

Enumerating the priorities of the movement for the road ahead, Haniyeh stressed the need for national reconciliation, saying Hamas was in touch with all others Palestinian factions - but that the ultimate goal remained to "bring an end to the occupation."

The leader took pains to warn that the "understandings" with Israel were at risk, euphemistically referring to the unofficial ceasefire brokered by Egypt, the UN and Qatar, between Hamas and the Israelis.

"The silence of the international community on the siege of Gaza, the wall and the settlements in the West Bank, the takeover of Jerusalem and attempts to erase the right of return encourage the occupation to commit more crimes," Haniyeh said, condemning foreign governments, especially Germany, for passing legislation criminalizing the BDS movement.
