I bought a 2012 Specialized Hardrock at a garage sale for $15, but it needed A LOT of work. I replaced the fork, chain, cables/housings, grips, and tubes. I cleaned up the parts for rust. I also painted the handlebars after cleaning the rust off those.
I have had a lot of people asking why I didn't overhaul the bottom bracket. That was because it was a sealed cartridge bottom bracket.
Final cost was about $70 including the cost of the bike.
